Royal Tours & Travels a subsidiary of Royal Group was established in 1976 extending the services of Royal Empire in the field of Tourism. Royal Group having started as early as 1937 with our forefathers in the travel business enjoys a good reputation for being the pioneers in the field.

In his own words the Director of Royal Tours and Travels, now the Fourth generation in business describes the history of Royal Travels as :
 

"We are pleased to introduce ourselves as one of the leading Travel Agents / Tour Operators in India since 1937 with Head Office in Kashmir (J&K) having Branch Offices in Jammu / Leh / Himachal / Garhwal / Uttranchal / Chhattisgarh and in the Capital city New Delhi (India).
We are in Travel Trade Business from the times immemorial, as our ancestors have been Legendry Pioneers in the Travel Trade Since 1887 with just one barrage (Water Transportation) as there were no means of automobile transportation in Kashmir and in fact the trade route was through rivers only and also the Carts were also the sources of transportation as well, but it took long time to bring things from one place to another. It was also difficult to use carts during winter times because of our winters the roads used to remain snow bound for months together. The Barges were being used to carry Provisions, other stock items of daily use through rivers, lakes & streams.

The British and The Mughal Emperors had developed legendary love for the Switzerland of Asia in the extreme north of India. The Mughals called it the real “Paradise On Earth” and would repeatedly love to land in Kashmir invariably to spend the summer vacations in Kashmir to be away from the scorching heat of the plains. The British liked the scenic beauty of the Himalayan region to the extent that they decided to build the floating houses as a substitute for they were not allowed to build any houses to live in Vale of Kashmir, which were later on named as House boats.

My Great Grand Father used to provide services to British like Barges which helped them to bring stock/provision from remote areas and also same barges were used for Sightseeing tours. They were also fond of bird watching and shooting of wildlife, so they were bound to use the services of our ancestors in all allied matters. In winter when they used to leave Kashmir for the plains, My Great Grand Father used to be put as caretaker of their property (House Boats) .The times kept on changing and with the passage of time House Boats were redesigned with a new pattern containing all modern amenities. The Shikara (riding boat) was later on Introduced to serve as a means of transportation for crossings and Boat ride within the lake. Now the British no more used their old boats and my Great Grand Father had an opportunity to buy one of the old House Boat and started accommodating in coming tourists there after. My Great Grand Father died in about 1916.That time my grand father was 3 years old and my Great Grand Mother with some employees who used to work for my Great Grand Father and were faithful also to my Great Grand Mother , after 13 years in 1929 my Grand father at the age of 16 took over this business and with the passage of time managed to build small House Boat having 2 bed rooms under the name as “Royal Palace”.

Our agency under the name and style as “Royal Tours and Travels” took birth in 1937 and in a very short period of time attained incredible fame as well as the name. Besides House Boats and being in travel trade we own our own firm of handicrafts namely “Gulistan Arts and Karnai Cottage Exposition”
